Review your survey

Work on the same survey, with clear responsibilities.

Survey design often involves several people: someone drafts the questions, someone reviews the method and someone manages collection. Lensym brings collaborators into the same survey with live editing and defined access roles.

Product recording

Watch a colleague’s edit appear live

In this product recording, a second signed-in editor changes the first question while another editor watches the update arrive. Presence avatars show the connected collaborators.

A shared place for the work behind a survey

Developing a questionnaire often involves more than its original author. A colleague may know the measures, a supervisor may review the study design and another researcher may manage collection. Lensym lets those people work with the same survey rather than separate working copies that need to be reconciled.

Changes sync between connected editors, and presence avatars show who is there. Question wording and settings can be reviewed as they change. This supports a direct conversation about the current instrument, with the same content available to everyone involved.

Permissions that distinguish different responsibilities

Editing a question, publishing a survey and downloading responses are different responsibilities. Lensym’s four roles make those distinctions explicit. Owner, Admin and Editor can edit and publish; Viewer is read-only. Owners and Admins manage collaborators and export responses, while only the Owner can delete the survey.

The details matter when a project moves into collection. Editors can view and delete responses but cannot export them. Viewers can read responses as well as the questionnaire. A role should therefore reflect the data and actions someone needs, including after the draft review has finished.

  • Owner: retains ownership and controls the survey.
  • Admin: helps manage access, publication and exports.
  • Editor: develops the survey and can publish it.
  • Viewer: reads the survey and responses without editing.

Illustrative research workflow

Bring a study author, co-researcher and supervisor into one review

A study author drafts a questionnaire, a co-researcher helps refine the measures and a supervisor reviews the overall approach. Those responsibilities need a shared instrument, but they do not necessarily need the same editing permissions.

The author owns the survey, the co-researcher joins as an Editor and the supervisor can use Viewer access for a read-only review. All roles can read responses, so the group agrees on data access before collection. This is a practical collaboration pattern rather than a separate approval workflow built into the product.

  1. Decide ownership and access

The intended owner creates the survey. Each collaborator has a Lensym account and receives an invitation for that survey, with a role selected around their responsibilities.

  2. Develop the draft together

The author and co-researcher divide the editing work and see updates appear live. Presence avatars identify connected collaborators while they discuss wording and the relationships between questions.

  3. Finish the review before collection

The team checks the survey and its respondent routes, then agrees when to publish. Access can be reviewed again as responsibility shifts from questionnaire design to handling the collected responses.

Live editing with room for deliberate coordination

A shared editor makes changes available quickly, but good collaboration still benefits from an agreed division of work. One researcher can concentrate on screening while another reviews outcome questions. Changes to a source question deserve particular attention when later logic or piping depends on it.

The draft is the place for that work. Publication locks the survey’s questions, so wording and route review belong before collection. Preview provides a way to experience the resulting questionnaire, while the shared editor keeps the agreed changes in the same instrument.

Project access without sharing an account

Collaborators join through their own Lensym accounts, using an email invitation for a particular survey. An invitation expires after seven days and must be accepted with the matching account. The access remains specific to that survey, which is useful when different colleagues contribute to different projects.

The creator remains the Owner, and ownership cannot currently be transferred. Lensym uses survey-level sharing rather than a separate team or workspace ownership model. Choosing the intended owner at the beginning gives the project a clear account responsible for its survey and responses.

Common questions

Can I undo changes while collaborating?
Undo and redo are disabled while connected to live collaboration, even when another collaborator is not currently online. Coordinate edits and review shared changes as you work.
Does a Viewer only see the questionnaire?
No. Viewers can also read responses. Their access is read-only, but it is not limited to reviewing the questionnaire itself.
