"GDPR Compliant"
This could mean:
- Full compliance with DPA available
- EU data residency option
- Marketing claim without substance
- Compliance for EU-based vendors only
Verify: Request their Data Processing Agreement. Ask specifically about data residency. Check their privacy policy for what data is collected by default.
"Export to Statistical Software"
This could mean:
- Native SPSS/Stata/R export with labels
- CSV export (compatible with anything, but no labels)
- Export that requires significant manual cleaning
- Export that loses response coding
Test it: Export a test survey to your analysis software. Check whether variable names, value labels, and missing data codes come through correctly.
The Testing Protocol
Don't choose survey software based on feature lists alone. Use free trials to test realistic scenarios.
