All settings

Select + in the editor, choose Email Input, then select the question and open Content.

All questions also have Title and Description. Replace the starter title with your question; Description is optional and starts blank. Use it for instructions that should remain visible while answering. The defaults below are for a newly added question, not necessarily the example above. The example starts with Required on so you can try validation; real new questions default to optional.

SettingDefaultBehaviour and availability
PlaceholderEnter your answer…Shown while empty; suggests an answer but does not supply one.
RequiredOffUnder Validation. Requires an answer before continuing when this question is shown.

Example: an optional contact address

Use Description to explain what the address will be used for, and set Placeholder to “name@example.com”. Leave Required off if people should be able to finish without providing contact details. Turning Required off allows a blank answer, but does not turn off format checks for an address that someone does enter.

What validation checks

The current check expects text before and after an @, a dot in the domain, and no spaces. It does not check ownership, send a verification message or guarantee delivery. There is no configurable allow-list of domains in this question's settings.

Try a blank answer, an incomplete address such as “name@”, and “name@example.com” with Check answer. If you reuse the address in later wording, test the optional blank case too. See missing answers.

Branching and piping

Open Advanced → Conditional Logic to route from an answer. In fields that offer { }, use piping to insert an earlier answer. Plan requirements apply to advanced logic, expressions and option attributes; these are separate from the Content settings above.
