Rating
A star or numeric rating scale.
A rating shown as stars or numbers.
All settings
Select + in the editor, choose Rating Scale, then select the question and open Content.
All questions also have Title and Description. Replace the starter title with your question; Description is optional and starts blank. Use it for instructions that should remain visible while answering. The defaults below are for a newly added question, not necessarily the example above. The example starts with Required on so you can try validation; real new questions default to optional.
| Setting | Default | Behaviour and availability |
|---|---|---|
| Min Label | Poor | Words describing a low rating. |
| Max Label | Excellent | Words describing a high rating. |
| Display Style | Stars | Choose Stars or Numbers; different scale controls appear for each. |
| Amount | 10 | Stars only. Number of stars; editor range 1–10. |
| Minimum | 1 | Numbers only. Must be less than Maximum. |
| Maximum | 10 | Numbers only. Upper end of the numeric scale. |
| Step Size | 1 | Numbers only. Positive interval no larger than the range. |
| Required | Off | Under Validation. Requires an answer before continuing when this question is shown. |
Stars and Numbers use different controls
In Stars mode, Amount sets the number of stars. In Numbers mode, Minimum, Maximum and Step Size set the choices. Changing Amount is not how you change the numeric scale. The five-star example is deliberately configured with Amount 5; newly added Rating questions default to 10 stars.
Try the numeric example with a 0–10 range and Step Size 2. Check both endpoints and confirm which intermediate values are offered. Choose bounds and a step that fit together, then test again if you pipe a numeric setting from an earlier answer.
Label the meaning, not just the score
“Poor” to “Excellent” fits a quality rating. Use labels appropriate to the question you actually ask, and keep the same scale for ratings you intend to compare. A rating stores one number; it does not collect a separate explanation. Add a text question if you need the reason.
Required needs a selection. Test a blank rating and a low and high answer in Preview. For the fixed 0–10 recommendation format and its optional reason, use NPS.
Branching and piping
Open Advanced → Conditional Logic to route from an answer. In fields that offer { }, use
piping to insert an earlier answer. Plan requirements apply to advanced
logic, expressions and option attributes; these are separate from the Content settings above.
