Conditional logic
Why my logic will not publish
The validation messages you might hit, and how to fix each one.
Lensym checks every rule before publishing. The common messages:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| At least one condition is required | The rule is empty — add a condition or delete the rule. |
| A condition references a later question | Choose the current question or an earlier question. |
| Cannot target questions within sections | Target the section itself, or use Skip. |
| Target must be after the current question | A rule can only send someone forward. |
| Advanced logic requires Essential | The rule uses a nested group, an expert operator, or Skip. |
Isolate the failing route
Start with one rule and one answer that should match it. Confirm the question, operator, comparison value and destination. Then try a non-matching answer to check the normal path.
After moving or deleting questions, revisit every affected pipe and condition. A question that was previously earlier may now be later, and a removed destination must be replaced.
When several rules interact, simplify the test case before changing more conditions. Keep a note of the answers and route you expected so you can reproduce the issue in Preview.
For a Split, use at least two different destinations after the current node and whole-number weights of at least 1. See testing randomized branches.
