Conditional logic

Add a branch by dragging

Draw a conditional path straight onto the canvas instead of filling in a form.

In the graph editor you can create a branch by dragging, which is usually faster than building the same rule in the Advanced panel.

  1. 1. Drag from the branch handle
Drag the small handle below the source question to the destination node.
  2. 2. Open Advanced
The dashed route is now visible. Open Advanced to choose when it runs.
  3. 3. Set the answer condition
Here, answering Researcher sends the respondent to End. Test both outcomes in Preview.

Hover the node the branch starts from

A diamond handle with a branch icon appears underneath it. It stays hidden until you hover or select the node, so the canvas is not covered in handles.

Drag from that handle to the target node

Drop it on the question you want people to jump to. Lensym draws a dashed line — the visual signature of a conditional path.

Set the condition

The source node is selected automatically. Open its Advanced tab to find New Condition. Check the question, operator and value, then verify the destination under THEN: GO TO.

Drag from the handle, not the node

Dragging the node body reorders it. Dragging the handle underneath creates a branch. If a drag reordered when you meant to branch, you started from the body.

Branches only start from the bottom handle

The handle on the right of a node is the default path — the route taken when no condition matches. It is not draggable, because that ordering is the survey's spine.

A new rule includes a starting condition, usually for the source question, with an empty value. Finish configuring it and test the route in preview. Do not assume the new branch already expresses the condition you intended.
