  1. 1. Select the later question
Keep the question cards visible beside Content. Choose the title that will use the earlier answer.
  2. 2. Drag the earlier question into Title
Drop the earlier question card where its answer should appear.
  3. 3. Check the inserted answer pill
The pill references the earlier answer. Preview the survey to check the resulting wording.

Start dragging a question

Pick it up from the canvas in either editor mode.

Watch the fields light up

Every field that accepts a pipe outlines itself the moment the drag begins. If a field does not highlight, it does not take pipes.

Drop it where you want the answer

The field you are over highlights more strongly. Drop, and the answer appears as a pill at that exact position — mid-sentence if that is where you dropped it.

The highlight tells you what is possible

Because every valid target lights up at once, a drag doubles as a map of where piping is allowed — useful the first few times you use it.

Changing what a pill inserts

Select any pill to change which part of the answer it pipes — the top-ranked item instead of the whole ranking, say, or an option's attribute instead of its label. See choosing what to pipe.

When dragging is not the right tool

Dragging inserts one answer at the drop point. For anything more — a calculation, several answers combined, a conditional phrase — use the field editor: select { } or press ⌘E.
