Piping

Choosing what to pipe

Pipe part of an answer — the top-ranked item, a date's start, an NPS follow-up.

A pipe can insert an entire answer or one useful part of it. Select a variable pill in the field editor to choose the part you need; the available choices depend on the question type.

Choose the right value

Use a label when writing readable text, and a numeric value when calculating. For a ranking, “item at position 2” means the second-ranked item; “rank of item” returns that item's position.

A selected choice can also provide an option attribute, such as a code or weight. The field editor keeps references tied to question and option IDs; you do not need to type those IDs yourself.

After changing the extraction, preview an answer that produces a value and one that leaves it missing. See missing answers.
