Long text
A multi-line free text answer.
A multi-line answer for explanations, comments and open-ended feedback.
All settings
Select + in the editor, choose Textarea, then select the question and open Content.
All questions also have Title and Description. Replace the starter title with your question; Description is optional and starts blank. Use it for instructions that should remain visible while answering. The defaults below are for a newly added question, not necessarily the example above. The example starts with Required on so you can try validation; real new questions default to optional.
| Setting | Default | Behaviour and availability |
|---|---|---|
| Placeholder | Enter your answer… | Shown while empty; suggests an answer but does not supply one. |
| Size | Auto | Auto grows with content; Resizable lets respondents resize vertically; Fixed Rows keeps a fixed height. |
| Rows | 4 | Visible for Resizable and Fixed Rows. Initial height in text rows; editor range 1–20. |
| Required | Off | Under Validation. Requires an answer before continuing when this question is shown. |
Choose a size for the answer you expect
For “What could we improve?”, Auto is useful when answers vary from one sentence to several paragraphs. Fixed Rows gives the question a predictable initial layout; overflowing text can be scrolled within the field. Resizable starts at the configured row count and lets the respondent adjust the height.
Rows controls height, not an answer-length limit. The current editor has no minimum or maximum word-count setting for Long text. Use Description to explain how much detail would be useful.
Try the layouts
Compare Auto, Resizable and Fixed Rows in the example. Type several paragraphs and check how the field behaves. Required controls whether a blank answer can continue, independently of the size. Also preview the question on a narrow screen, especially when it appears inside a section.
Branching and piping
Open Advanced → Conditional Logic to route from an answer. In fields that offer { }, use
piping to insert an earlier answer. Plan requirements apply to advanced
logic, expressions and option attributes; these are separate from the Content settings above.
